Healthy food focus—What’s a green drink?
Green Drinks
When it comes to getting the most from what
you eat, nutrient dense foods should be your first
choice. (The nutrient density of food refers to the
ratio between nutrients and calories consumed in
any given food.) Fresh fruits and raw leafy green
vegetables are frst and second choice with solid
green vegetables a close third.
It is recommended that you eat ten different
types of fruits and ten different types of vegetables daily.
It is the synergistic effect of the different types of fruits and vegetables that provide
the comprehensive nutrition our bodies need.
An easy way of getting that large variety is by
consuming it in a green drink.
There are lots of ways to make a green drink.
Shoot for 6–7 different types of vegetables (spinach
is the mildest of the leafy greens and a good place
to start), 6–7 different fruits and 2–3 types of berries
like blueberries, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries or strawberries.
For liquid, Christy adds kefir
(a cultured milk similar to yoghurt) and coconut water. Use a good blender.
Recipes are available on the
internet, just search on “green smoothie.”
You can drink it with breakfast and throughout the day.
It provides lots of energy, nutrients,
and fiber so you’ll be less hungry between meals.
