Recipes-Beverages

The beginning of the year is always a time of resolutions. One resolution in particular most people have is eating healthier. Instead of drinking soda, why not try drinking some flavored water? Here are some refreshing ideas to add to a cup of H2O:

  • Try adding lemon, lime, or orange slices to a large glass of water. Or better yet, combine them together! If you are looking for more intense flavor, squeeze the citrus into your water.
  • Lots of different fruit makes a good flavor to water. Fruits you can try alone or combine are any  berries (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries), mango, kiwi, pineapple, watermelon, cantaloupe, etc.
  • Herbs are a great addition as well, like mint leaves or fresh thyme.
  • Try different combinations! Orange and mint, strawberry and cucumber, lemon and mint...

Want to make a pitcher of water? Just slice up fresh fruit, herbs, or cucumbers, place in a pitcher. Add cold water and chill for several hours.  Here are a few recipes for flavored water in a pitcher:

Citrus Cucumber Water
1 large lemon, sliced
1 large lime, sliced
1 large orange, sliced
1 large cucumber, sliced
1 half-gallon of water

Add all sliced fruit and veggies to a pitcher. Add water. Chill for at least 2 hours to allow flavors to infuse, then serve in glasses over ice.

Honeydew-Lime Water
2-3 slices of ripe honeydew melon
1 lime, sliced
4 sprigs of mint
1 half-gallon of water

Add melon slices, lime slices, and mint sprigs to a large pitcher. Fill with the water and chill 2-4 hours. Serve in ice-filled glasses. Makes 8 servings.
